Michael Perlman, MFA, LP

I’m a Therapist and Psychoanalyst in New York City

I provide therapy for adults and couples who are working towards deeper clarity, connection and emotional freedom

About Me

I believe that we each have our own private language, and many of our struggles come from an inability to translate that language for ourselves and others.

In order to do this, we have to understand our stories. I work in a deeply personal, compassionate and playful way with each person or couple to understand those languages to create a life filled with more connection, agency and vitality.

My philosophy

I received my psychoanalytic training from the National Institute for the Psychotherapies, as a relationally focused therapist and psychoanalyst.

Prior to my training at NIP, I was an award-winning theatre artist. My deep love of exploring what makes us human, and how we understand our stories led me to psychotherapy.

You will feel my background as a theatre artist in my curiosity, my playfulness and my creativity in helping us understand your unique humanity.

My background

I work with adults and couples with a wide variety of stories and backgrounds.

I offer a space to explore what it means to navigate the world as an LGBTQ+ person, a BIPOC person, or one carrying the history of childhood trauma, or any lived or epigenetic experience you bring into the room.

If you have specific questions or concerns, please bring them to me so that we can discuss together.
